Destination Ondo is an answer to recreate Africa, says Akinboboye — Saturday Magazine — The Guardian Nigeria News – Nigeria and World News

The Chairman of La Campagne Tropicana Lagoon, Beach and Forest Resort, Otunba Wanle Akinboboye, who is also a consultant to the Ondo State Government on tourism, said: “Destination Ondo is a project focused on recreating the ‘a new generation of Africans who would be enviable across the world for producing great values from ordinary things in nature.

Akinboboye, who is currently leading the development of Destination Ondo Hills Resort in the state, said the Destination Ondo project is focused on transforming Africa.

According to him, Africa needs to tell its story, especially by itself. “We need to redefine our image, our content and ourselves and that is what Destination Ondo is. Every day we write our true stories with great pride and we want the world to come and learn from our African values,” he said.

“We want the world to come and enjoy our resources, but in a sustainable way. The world has much to learn and benefit from Africa. We must not deny the world, and we must not deprive ourselves of the benefits attached to it. Dubai was a desert, they rewrote its history and the world is better off. Panama has also rewritten its history, why not Africa? He wondered.

Outlining the vision for the project, he said, “We are deliberate about job creation, at Destination Ondo we crystallize the many values of our indigenous people and our God-given natural environment. These are part of our program at the Continent Building Initiative (CBI).

“We are showing this to the world to create equitable and sustainable wealth for resident Africans. Due to the unsustainable way in which we have managed our resources in the past, many Africans are migrating in search of employment. But at Destination Ondo, we are deliberately creating jobs locally.

“Our people can work here with pride without losing their personality, their history and their cultural values. They will be able to raise their children as Africans capable of distinguishing good values from bad values and projecting the African heritage.

Speaking further, he said, “We provide amazing marketplace experiences for people. At Destination Ondo, we create a marketplace of amazing experiences where people can come from all over the world for self-directed study or group learning. All the facilities that guarantee their comfort are provided. These include all forms of fun and engagement to create a memorable experience.

According to him, unlike many parts of the world which are not geographically favored, many places in Africa are endowed with excellent natural vegetation, saying that Africa still has native natural plants with medicinal and social values.

He noted that Africa has good soil and natural animals living in the wild undisturbed, saying this is a potential for inquisition of knowledge about the natural interactions of different members of the natural ecosystem.

Akinboboye said, “We will market our heirlooms at all levels. One of the special features of the Destination Ondo Tourism project is that we also deliberately market our local dialect and accents. These are legacies passed down to us from our great-grandparents.

“It comes with our pride, our nuances, the content of the messages, the body languages, the names and identities of many of our local features, native architectures, native animals, insects, plants and cultural relationships.

“A whole set of economic beams will be lost forever if we don’t deliberately revive it. We need to incentivize people to speak our Ondo dialect and make sure the world sees reasons to learn it. It’s the language that built great industries in the past and the potentials are not lost, just put it on a clear path.

He noted that tourists would have the opportunity to interact with indigenous peoples for cross-cultural, transnational and transcontinental value exchanges, saying the project focuses on a knowledge-based economy.

He said, “It’s quite funny today that many families confuse language with knowledge, but that’s not the case. The ability to speak English, for example, does not imply that you can design a jet that will fly. Designing this jet is knowledge.

“If you grow in this critical knowledge, you will produce a jet wherever you are in the world, whatever language you speak. This explains why Asians are doing wonders across the world today.

“They focus on knowledge first, but we do the exact opposite. This explains why aliens draw our civilization for us and we only interpret them in vocal grammars. We take a back seat in the journey of our own destiny.

“Finally, we are creating a new generation of Africans because Destination Ondo is not just a place to visit but a set of life experiences. We are a people recreating a new world from relative obscurity. Enjoying our advantage and create a desirable product that the world needs.

“We do this while solving the world’s main problems. We are addressing issues of poverty, insecurity, inappropriate migration, inadequate job skills, re-addressing valuable migration and restoring genuine African trust.

“We are using the power of knowledge and organization to take decisive, generational action to rebuild the African continent.”
